I can hardly believe that Claire it three! Sometimes it feels like Wow! Claire is three years old! but most of the time, it’s She’s only three! Not that we’re tired of having her around but it seems like she’s always been a part of our family and I only vaguely remember what life was like before children.

We have a rule in our house: What the birthday girl wants, the birthday girl gets. It’s fun to have at least one day a year where they’re completely spoiled. Claire’s first birthday command: everyone must call her Pinkie Pie. Done.
The post present stupor. |
Her second, Claire requested her hair to be braided. Even though it’s incredibly hard to plait wispy toddler hair on a wiggly girl, the birthday girl gets what she wants.
After an hour helping out a friend and getting some groceries for her birthday dinner, Claire requested a trip to the Children’s museum. We went, battled through the barrage of strollers and screaming kids and had fun.
Except when I had to ask her to dismount the stuffed reindeer. The birthday girl doesn’t get to do that . . .
And when the birthday girl needed some time alone and wandered over to see Santa by herself. I didn’t allow alone time in a humongous, busy place and I forgot to shout for Pinkie Pie to come back when I couldn’t find her. She was rather annoyed when I called for Claire and responded with an exasperated, “Mooooom! I’m Pinkie Pie!“
She got first pick of carousel horses and loved her choice! |
The birthday girl wanted to nap in the car on the way home and I let her. Usually I tickle her or ask her what she wants to do later in the evening to save the precious nap for home. But, it was her birthday.
Claire choose mac ‘n’ cheese with deviled eggs for dinner and a horse cake for dessert. Done and done!
Once again, I am thankful we’re not pioneers and she opened her presents in front of family over six hundred and fifty miles away. We sang happy birthday, blew out her big 3 candle (also a birthday wish) and stayed up late watching a movie. Even though she didn’t get everything she wanted, it was pretty close.
Sure! Eat your cake with your hands on the living room floor. Why not? You’re the birthday girl! |
