It has begun. One blustery morning, I sat down at the computer and glanced outside to see a For Sale and an Open House sign stuck conspicuously in the yard. My heart skipped a beat. Leaving our place to move to an as-of-yet unknown location suddenly became all too real. We always knew our stay in Iowa would most likely be temporary (not a lot of aerospace jobs in the Midwest unfortunately) but the problem now is that I’m not sure I’m ready to say goodbye.

Mark Greenfield was the realtor that helped us find this once rundown farmstead. He knew it was going to be work but he understood we weren’t looking for a palace. More than the house, we were attracted to the open space, the location and the potential of the place. Four and a half years later, we’re on the other end, hoping someone else will be able to enjoy this property as much as we have. Not many people get to have their horses right out their window, see some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets uninhibited by neighboring houses, or warm themselves by a blazing bonfire in their front yard. We are certainly going to miss this home.
Katherine helped by sleeping a little extra while the rest of us toiled. |
Sunday was the first open house. We spent fifteen hours on Saturday furiously cleaning and checking home improvements off our list while sweet baby Kate slept and the older girls helped. It turns out, only one couple stopped by for the open house. But it’s a start. We’ll just have to patiently wait and see what the next few months brings and relish one more autumn on the farm.
Pardon the bird poo on the car window, haha! It is always a hazard out here. |
