We are avid clothesline people and to make it a little easier (and avoid the dreaded clothesline rot when they’re left out in the rain), here’s a quick and simple clothespin pouch that can be made in less than an hour, using mostly scraps.
Perfect for little helpers too! |
You’ll Need:
Two pieces of scrap fabric, 10 1/2 inches by 20 1/2 inches or larger
One fabric scrap for the pocket, 7 inches by 16 inches or larger
Cord–long enough to wrap around waist and tie in back.
Scissors, pinking shears, thread, pins, etc
1. Cut out two rectangles of fabric (Mine were 10 1/2 inches by 20 1/2 inches). Pin top of fabric with right sides together.
2. Sew along the top of the pouch.
3. Cut the edges with pinking shears to prevent fraying. Hem an inch on both the front and back fabric (when the pouch is sewn together, it will allow you to turn the fabric right side out and will be the holes for the cord).
4. Pin bottom together with right sides together and sew. Pin sides together and sew up to the already hemmed holes, leaving about an inch open to turn out fabric and thread cord through.
5. Turn fabric right side out through cord holes. Iron flat.
6. Sew along top and bottom seams.
7. Put cord through the top two holes. Sew closely to the cord to secure it.
8. Sew along sides all the way up to the stitching under the cord (make sure hems are still turned in).
9. Cut a piece of fabric for the pocket (Mine was 7 inches by 16 inches).
10. Cut sides and bottom with pinking shears to prevent fraying. Fold over, pin and sew.
11. Hem top of pocket.
12. With right sides together, center bottom of the pocket near the bottom of the pouch (you’ll fold the pocket up and sew along sides so make sure it’s where you want the bottom of the pocket to be).
Umm…I may have used an old pair of painting pants as my pockets. At least the paint will be on the inside! |
13. Turn pocket up and pin sides. Sew along sides and bottom to secure.
14. Finish as desired (sew pocket in center to make two pockets, burn ends of cord to prevent fraying, etc).
I sewed my pocket up the center to make two smaller pockets. |
